Ceiling Light Setup

04 steps

Everything you need to mount and power your Ceiling Light is included in the box.

In the box:

  • 26" LED Ceiling Light
  • Mounting Bracket
  • 2 x Junction Box Screws
  • 2 x Toggle Bolts

You’ll Need:

  • A smartphone (iOS 18.0+ or Android 8.1+)
  • The LIFX app (download from App Store or Google Play)
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (Most smart devices require 2.4 GHz. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, that’s usually fine.)
  • Your Wi-Fi password

Important Notes:

  • Keep your phone near the light during setup.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Ensure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the light to use.

Before you start

  • Turn off power at the switch and circuit breaker
  • You'll need a Phillips screwdriver

Installation steps

  1. Unpack the fixture (A) and remove the mounting plate (B) by sliding it to unlock and lifting off.
  2. Ensure the included safety cable is firmly attached to the mounting plate while wiring.
  3. Align the mounting plate (B) to the junction box (C) and affix using the included screws. Mark the two outer holes — this is where you'll drill for the toggle bolts (D).
  4. Remove the mounting plate, then drill the two marked holes using a 1/2" drill bit.
  5. Remove the wings (E) from the toggle bolts (D), fit the bolts through the mounting plate (B), and reattach the wings to the back.
  6. Fold down the wings and insert the toggle bolts into the drilled holes — the wings will expand behind the ceiling. Pull the bolts downward to engage, then re-install the junction box screws and tighten the toggle bolts to secure the plate firmly.
  7. Lift the fixture (A) toward the junction box and secure the safety cable (G) to the mounted plate.
  8. Use the pre-attached connectors (F) to connect the white fixture wire to the neutral supply wire, the green fixture wire to the grounding wire, and the black fixture wire to the hot supply wire — push firmly into the connector holes.
  9. Tuck the wires and safety cable into the junction box. Unfold the small metal arms on the fixture and fit the mounting plate screws into the slot to attach.
  10. Gently swing the fixture (A) up toward the ceiling on the arms, then slide sideways to lock securely in place.

Tips

Double-check all connections are tight and correct before restoring power.

If unsure about any wiring, consult a qualified licensed electrician — all connections must comply with Local and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.

To factory reset, turn the light off and on at the switch 5 times (roughly one switch per two seconds). The light will cycle through four colors when the reset is successful.

Perfect overhead lighting for my kitchen. This was also my first smart switch. Adding devices to the LIFX app is a bit of a pain; seems like Apple Homekit and LIFX app don’t work and play well together. After poking at it for a while, LIFX app finally saw my new devices and cooperated.

I got this for a garage gym. Connectivity is great. Colors are ok. Installation is ok. We "got" to buy two because one was accidently dropped and shattered - don't do that (lol). Best thing about the app - can ask the AI assistant for help, and it's very good. Worst thing - for everyday use, it's too complicated imho. Would be nice to be able to get it to sync with music but I don't want to take the time to figure out how to do it. If it would be easy to set a "favorite" setting like you do with radio stations that would help. They can be set but again it's not at all intuitive, and I use a lot of smart products. It if is trying to be all things to all people, it needs a simple interface and then an advanced button for all the tech geeks out there who actually like going through all the other steps. It's just a light... Lastly, I think bigger (or different) dimensions would be better aesthetically. It doesn't sit flush with the ceiling intentionally, and I think that's a design oops too. The shape is just several decades outdated.

How do I find my Matter code if I've lost the manual?

Your Matter code is unique to your fixture and required after installing and turning on your light. It's printed on your manual, so keep it somewhere safe once you've set up your light. The code can also be found on the fixture itself, so if you've misplaced the manual, check there for the code.

Can I install the LIFX Ceiling in a bathroom or other damp location?

The LIFX Ceiling is rated suitable for damp locations, but it is not suitable for use under direct dust and moisture exposure. Avoid installing it in areas with direct water contact, such as inside a shower enclosure.

Do I need a smart home hub to use the LIFX Ceiling?

No hub is required for standard use — the LIFX Ceiling connects directly to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and is controlled through the LIFX app. A Matter-enabled hub (Google, Apple, or other) is only needed if you want to use Matter's home and away features.

Can I dim my LIFX Ceiling using a regular wall dimmer switch?

We recommend controlling brightness through the LIFX app rather than a physical wall dimmer. Since the fixture connects to Wi-Fi for smart features, using an incompatible wall dimmer may cause flickering or disrupt its network connection. For tactile control at the wall, consider the LIFX Smart Dimmer — it installs in place of your existing switch, offers smooth dimming with a built-in LED brightness indicator, and stays connected to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network for app, voice, and scene control alongside your LIFX Ceiling.

How long will my LIFX Ceiling light last?
