LIFX Outdoor SuperColor String Light 24ft Kit - 600 Lumens

So glad I went with these lights. Having other Lifx lights, these of course fit in perfect with the system. Looks awesome outside and able to set fun themes based on the party!

These are among the few LED string lights I can actually stand. The large lens compensates for LED’s unfortunate tendency to appear smaller than the bulb size. These do still cast that cold, soulless LED haze on the ground (give me the warm glow of incandescents!), but the lights themselves are bright and colorful.

Best of all, I love having permanent outdoor lights I can control individually. We only had to install them once, and now we can change their colors with every holiday. Cable clips and screws are included in the kit, but the clips are flat and only work if you are installing them vertically. We needed to install the clips horizontally under the deck handrail, so I bought alligator-style clips that hold the cable more securely.

Another installation tip: Each light is encased in shrink wrap that is so hard, you’ll need scissors just to get the perforations started so you can remove it. It also gets caught under the black cap at the top of each light, and sometimes wisps of it remain. Still, I’m glad it’s there—the rest of my string and its control boxes were so scuffed up when I opened the package, I thought I’d been sent a used product.

Setup was easy and well documented in the Help Center and on the website. Everything else, not so much... Capabilities that are shared among all of LIFX's products (scenes, routines, etc.) are fairly well documented, but there's not a lot of help for the string lights specifically. The help center also has some confusingly outdated wording and screenshots that don’t match the app’s user-interface.

When I first attempted to program each light individually, I thought I’d received a defective strand because some of the bulbs weren’t responding to color changes.Then I realized I was changing the colors of bulbs much further down the line, around the corner of the house. Eventually I figured out that the representation of the string of lights in the app’s UI is like a snake folded over on itself rather than rows that should be read left-to-right like text. This should have been documented in the Help Center—better yet, the UI could have arrows that indicate the order of the lights in the string.

Otherwise, the app UI is fairly intuitive and feels like LIFX actually invested in it. So many smart-home products come with janky apps that never get updated and barely work to control the device. This one is easy enough to use that I may never get around to programming these lights into Alexa.

Majorly impressed with quality and capabilities.

Extremely simple to set up with fantastic durability and heft for outdoor use, but polished enough it could be used indoors as well. Being able to select different zones in addition to themes makes for a fantastic experience, and the lights themselves have a wonderful, strong color without being overwhelming. I also really appreciate the ends that are designed for additional lengths of lights. It is subtle and well hidden but seems to be very simple to add additional lights without issues of spacing.
