Lightstrip Setup

Everything you need to install and style your Lightstrip is included in the box — no hub required.

In the box:

  • 1 x Lightstrip (40, 80 or 120")
  • 1 x Wi-Fi Controller
  • 1 x Plug in Power Supply
  • 1 x User Manual with Matter (or HomeKit) QR Code

You’ll Need:

  • A smartphone (iOS 18.0+ or Android 8.1+)
  • The LIFX app (download from App Store or Google Play
  • A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (Most smart devices require 2.4 GHz. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, that’s usually fine.)
  • Your Wi-Fi password

Important Notes:

  • Keep your phone near the light during setup.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Ensure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the light to use.

Installation

  1. Clean the surface where you'll be mounting the strip using the alcohol wipe provided — this is important for adhesion. Allow it to dry fully before proceeding.
  2. Plan your full run before peeling anything. Note any corners or gaps where you may need extension cables.
  3. Peel the backing off the lightstrip and press it firmly into position. Hold each section in place for 30 seconds.
  4. Connect the lightstrip to the controller, then plug the power supply into a standard indoor outlet.

If extending your lightstrip

  • The lightstrip can be extended up to 10m / 33' with a maximum load of 30W.
  • When connecting the lightstrip into a connector cable, be careful — the pins can be fractionally misaligned and forcing them will cause damage. Connect with the curved surface oriented upwards to avoid bending the pins.
  • After connecting a new strip with the controller already powered, press the button on the controller for 1 second to detect the new strip. A light will run the full length as it scans.

Tips

  • Avoid cutting the lightstrip. If you need to cut the lightstrip please read advice here.
  • Do not bend the pin connectors. Maximum bend anywhere along the strip is 90°, and never bend directly on an LED.
  • Apply once to your final position — do not remove and reapply, as the adhesive will not hold a second time.
  • This product is for indoor use only — not suitable for dust or moisture.
  • Do not use near ovens, radiators, heaters, or other excessively hot environments.
  • To factory reset, hold the button on the controller for 5 seconds.
  • Clean only with a soft dry cloth while unpowered. Do not use cleaning agents.

Er ma gerd! Love them! They create amazing ambiance in our living spaces. And they are under the island and behind the TV so they create this wonderful spaceship glow. The only deficit, is bending a corner is clunky and creates these odd pyramid triangle corners where part of the strip is pointing out, collecting dust, etc. I wish there were joints or something to help make cornering easier.

Do I need a hub or bridge to use this lightstrip?

No. LIFX Lightstrip connects directly to your home Wi-Fi (2.4GHz band) via the included Wi-Fi controller, so there's no separate hub required. Just download the LIFX app to get started.

Does this support Matter?

Yes. LIFX Lightstrip can be updated to support Matter via a free firmware update through the LIFX app, so you can pair it with Matter-compatible platforms like Google Home or Apple Home in addition to the LIFX app. It also supports Apple HomeKit directly out of the box using the QR code included in the manual.

Can you cut led strip lights to fit my space, and how long can I extend it?

Yes — the lightstrip can be cut to length between LED zones, but once cut, that section can't be reconnected or extended further, and cutting the lightstrip will void the warranty, so this should only be done at your own risk. If you'd rather not cut it, you can add length using the LIFX Lightstrip Extension packs and optional extension cables, which also let you route the strip around corners and gaps. In total, it can be extended up to 10m/33' with a maximum load of 30W.

Which LED strip light kit should I buy, and can I add to it later?

LIFX Lightstrip comes in several sizes to match different projects. The 40" and 80" kits suit accents, highlights, and smaller spaces, while the 118" (120") kit covers larger installs like kitchen islands, cabinetry, or ceilings. If you need serious coverage — wrapping a full room, running along ceilings, or lighting up multiple surfaces at once — the 240" Bundle pairs two 120" kits together for double the length and color zones.
