Talk to your LIFX lights with Amazon Echo.
Amazon Echo is designed around your voice. It can hear you from across the house even when it is playing your favourite tune. Use Echo to switch off the lights when you’re snug in bed, or dim the lights from the couch to watch a movie.
Echo Dot is a hands-free, voice-controlled device with a small built-in speaker. Dot connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and of course your LIFX lights.
Your LIFX Lights now talk directly to the Amazon Echo through the Alexa Connected Home Integration. After a few simple set up steps (see below) you can control your LIFX lights with simple statements like:
Alexa, Turn the lights on
Alexa, Turn the Kitchen light off
Alexa, Switch lights to 50% brightness
Alexa, lower brightness by 25%
Alexa, dim Bedroom lights by 25%
Alexa, turn on Movie Night Scene
Alexa, activate My Pink Scene
How to Get Connected
Make sure your lights are on the LIFX Cloud then follow these steps:
1. Open the Alexa app and go to Smart Home in the Menu. Choose, Get More Smart Home Skills, and search for LIFX. Authorize your account with the Skill.
2. Close the authentication page and tap discover devices. After a few seconds your lights will be displayed under Smart Home in the Alexa app and you can optionally group them for Alexa here (hint: Alexa groups are separate from your personal LIFX groups).
3. Say “Alexa, turn my lights… On” or “...Off”. That's it!
4. Save your favorite colors as a scene in the LIFX app (tell me how) then ask Alexa to activate it any time: “Alexa, turn on My Pink Scene”.
